Well, July was certainly…a month. We were oh-so- Well, July was certainly…a month. We were oh-so-happy to turn the calendar page today and put it behind us, but that said, we’re also reflecting on what the ‘big lesson’ of the past 31 days has been. And, you know…it’s something of a bitter pill. Seeing the ways that the people and institutions we should be able to trust are not worthy of that trust shatters something we *want* to believe in, but can’t anymore. On the one hand, it feels like a door closed. But on the other, it feels like the beginning of something bigger and more meaningful. We’ll let you read the essay and see if you agree (the full, unedited, and sourced version can be found on our Substack—link in bio). But bottom line, we want to say this today: this is the craziest, sickest, ugliest timeline most of us could have imagined, during a time when humanity has made so much progress yet still operates with this level of depravity. What is getting us through right now is watching the people who won’t settle for that or look away. People like you, who keep showing up and fighting for what is good and right. People who refuse to stop making good trouble and pissing off bad people. You are giving us hope to hold onto. Thank you for that. Not because of grief, but because of noticing who it was that found kindness for a man who spent his entire career voting against the people they claim to represent. This isn't really about Lindsey Graham. It's about what happens when the people you're counting on to fight for you decide a colleague's warmth is worth more than your safety—and how easily they convince themselves that's not what they're doing. Do we believe in the goals of egalitarianism and bipartisan problem-solving? Absolutely. But we won’t rehabilitate someone’s legacy under the pretense of diplomacy. If you want to be remembered well when you’re gone, then choose to live your life in a way that inspires that memory. Everyone has someone in their life who still believes that "reaching across the aisle" is automatically a virtue. Share this with them. An informed citizenry is the very foundation of democracy itself. Stay in your box. None of it’s wasted. Every so-called “distraction” is building something real. Something that feeds us. Because curiosity isn’t a defect in life. It’s a superpower. And seriously, who made the rule that you can only do one thing at a time? In this life, you get to nourish yourself from *the whole f*cking buffet!* You get to learn and do and try and fail and try again…and it ALL counts. So if you’ve been made to feel like you're “too much” or “all over the place” or some other label designed to dim your light—welcome. You’re in exactly the right place. We were literally made to create, to grow, and to strive. Around here, "too much" is just right. This is not the 4th of July we wanted, but it is t This is not the 4th of July we wanted, but it is the one we have. What we’ve been feeling lately can only be described as one thing: grief. And it’s terribly difficult to think about celebrating our country—even a country we love so much—while we also feel as though we are mourning the loss of it. That’s exactly what we set out to explore in this piece, and we suspect we’re not the only ones dealing with this level of dissonance over the upcoming festivities. Today was a lot. We’ve felt sick to our stomachs Today was a lot. We’ve felt sick to our stomachs all day. In 2023, a jury found the president liable of SA. In 2024, a federal jury found the president guilty of continued defamation against the victim. Today, the Supreme Court refused to take up an appeal of that SA verdict—confirming, once and for all, that our president is a r*pist. That same court then handed him even more unchecked power over the systems designed to protect Americans. More power than any president has held in nearly a century. We are allowed to feel the full weight of that. We are also not allowed to stop there. While we're all cycling through yet another round of shock and grief and fury, the architecture of control gets another story built on top of it. They are counting on our exhaustion.
